Exhibition "Pilgrims. The Way to Santiago de Compostela"
Visiting hours: 16:00 - 18:30
The Catherijneconvent Museum, in Utrecht, and the Pelgrims Verhalen are preparing a series of promotional events related to the Way of Saint James. An exhibition and a conference that will be held from November 2nd to 4th will explain to their audiences the meaning and the importance of Saint James pilgrimages.
The exhibition is organised as if it were a pilgrimage itself; thus it will be possible to follow, both literally and figuratively, the itineraries towards Santiago de Compostela.
People will be able to recreate the experiences of hundreds of pilgrims that have sent their essays, videos, and photos to the website, enabling thus a virtual pilgrimage where the eyesight, the hearing and the sense of smell will have a main role.
Guided visits, activities specially designed for pupils of primary and secondary schools, lectures, and workshops aimed to children round off this project. They will show to all kind of audiences different subjects such as the clothes medieval pilgrims used to wear, or the hard conditions they had to withstand along their pilgrimage.
Summarising, it is the great exhibition on Saint James pilgrimages in Western Europe made in Holland.
The S.A. de Xestión do Plan Xacobeo contributes to this project with a picture collection about the pilgrimage in Spain, taken by the German artist Silvia Steinback along the French Way.
